Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fiffy Hanisdah Saikim is an academic leader, researcher, and conservation advocate, currently serving as the Director of the Institute for Tropical Biology and Conservation (ITBC), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). Her academic journey reflects a strong interdisciplinary foundation, beginning with a Bachelor of Science in Aquatic Resource Science and Management from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), followed by a Master of Science in Nature Tourism from UMS, and culminating in a Ph.D. in Tourism from James Cook University, Australia.

Dr. Fiffy’s research expertise lies at the intersection of biodiversity conservation, sustainable tourism, and community engagement. Her work emphasizes the integration of ecological science with local knowledge, policy frameworks, and socio-economic dimensions. She has led and collaborated on various high-impact research projects across Sabah, focusing on ecotourism, firefly and Sumatran rhinoceros conservation, human-wildlife conflict mitigation, and the socio-cultural dynamics of communities living adjacent to protected areas.

Her academic contributions have extended beyond national borders. As a contributing author to the Global Environment Outlook 7 (GEO-7) under the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Dr. Fiffy provides input into global environmental policy discourse, advocating for nature-based solutions, inclusive development, and the role of the Global South in biodiversity stewardship. She is also actively involved in international scientific networks, including the Borneo Studies Network, and the Asian International Mobility for Students (AIMS) programme, where she represents Malaysia as Executive Secretary.
