Ruben Guisson, VITO, Belgium
Ruben Guisson MSc is an expert researcher in the fields of biomass, bioenergy and biobased economy at VITO (Flemish Institute for Technological Research – www.vito.be). He promoted as a master in Applied Sciences (bio-engineer) at the University of KULeuven (Belgium) in 2002. In 2003 he started his career as a project manager at PIBO (Belgium) (Institute for Biotechnical Research). His research focus addressed sustainable agriculture, organic farming and bio-energy crops. In 2006 Ruben found a new challenge as an expert researcher/consultant at VITO in the fields of biomass, bioenergy and biobased economy and energy transition. Since he has been involved in regional, national and European studies and projects. Depending on the project focus he functions as a policy & strategy analyst and advisor, a feasibility consultant or as an techno-economic analyst. His client portfolio covers local to international public authorities as well as large industries and SME. He gained important expertise in the following projects e.g. Refund+ (IEE), BAPDriver (IEE), Energy Conversion Parks (Interreg), BERST (FP7-KBBE) and in a framework study of the Flemish Biobased Landscape for the Flemish government. He’s ExCo member for IEA-Bioenergy and National Task Leader for Task 40 on bioenergy & trade, member of the Flemish interdepartemental working group on bio-economy, member of the Flemish bioenergy platform and Flemish expert in the Coordination Committee for International Environmental Policy. Since 2016 he is the Team Leader of the bioeconomy team at VITO.
