Adrian Isaacs is a Reader in Neurodegenerative Disease at the UCL Institute of Neurology, UK. He did pre-doctoral work at the Mayo Clinic, Florida, contributing to the discovery of MAPT mutations in FTD. This was followed by a PhD at the University of Oxford and post-doctoral work at Harvard Medical School before establishing his laboratory at UCL. His laboratory investigates the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying FTD and ALS, with a particular focus on the CHMP2B and C9orf72 genes. Recent work on C9orf72 identified the presence of both sense and antisense RNA foci in C9FTD patient brain, the elucidation of the structure of C9orf72 GGGGCC repeat RNA and a role for arginine-rich DPRs in C9orf72 repeat-mediated neurodegeneration.
