Pharmacy today announced publishing a new book, The School of Pharmacy, University of
London: Medicines, Science and Society, 1842-2012, authored by Briony Hudson in collaboration with Maureen Boylan. Its
publication marks the 170th anniversary of the School of Pharmacy
and its transition from the University of London to UCL.
The book details the chronological history of the school from its establishment in 1842 to present day, and discusses the school's future aspirations. It presents the history of the school uniquely within the context of the development of the pharmacy profession and educational systems, pharmacists' changing relationships with their patients, and the evolving fields of medicine and public health.
"This new book is the wonderful result of our collaboration with the prestigious University of London on a project that commemorates the history of its School of Pharmacy," said Suzanne BeDell, Managing Director, Science and Technology Books at Elsevier. "Given that we both serve this market, we felt it was important to capture the history of this school which has made such noteworthy contributions to the pharmacy profession."
The School of Pharmacy, University of London uses numerous photographs, discussions of important industry advances, cultural milestones, and biographies to portray the history of the school. It celebrates the heritage of the school and highlights its cutting-edge role in pharmacy innovation, research and education. The book also features a foreword written by Her Royal Highness, Princess Anne, Chancellor of the University of London.
