Focus on Environmentally-Friendly Materials is Key to Climate Change Response
Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, today announced the publication of three new books on sustainability and efficiency in civil engineering materials and infrastructure, a growing area of research and development. These books include Eco-efficient Materials for Mitigating Building Cooling Needs, edited by Fernando Pacheco-Torgal, João Labrincha, Luísa F. Cabeza and Claes-Göran Granqvist. This is a state-of-the-art review on eco-efficient materials that could contribute significantly to reducing the urban heat island effect and mitigating building cooling needs.
In order to meet content needs in growing areas of research and development such as this, Elsevier uses proprietary tools to gain unique visibility into the world’s research trends to identify the gaps between industry research now and emerging areas of scientific inquiry. Editorial teams strategically fill those gaps with content written by key influencers in the field, giving researchers the content they need to answer challenging questions and improve research outcomes. These new books on sustainability and efficiency in civil engineering materials and infrastructure are key examples.
Eco-efficient Materials for Mitigating Building Cooling Needs provides coverage of advanced building materials that could contribute significantly to reducing cooling energy use in buildings, vital information given the fact that it is estimated that more than two billion people will live in cities by 2050 and global warming will aggravate cooling requirements. The book also looks at innovative products such as thermo- and electrochromic materials.
A professional civil engineer and the lead editor, Dr. Pacheco-Torgal
is an investigator at the Territory, Environment and Construction Research Cjentre
(C-TAC) at the School of Engineering, University of Minho, Portugal. A member
of the Order of Engineers since 1993, he attained the qualification level of
senior member in 2003. Dr. Pacheco-Torgal has authored or co-authored more than
200 scientific and technical articles, and has been an editor for several other
Elsevier books, including Eco-efficient Masonry Bricks and Blocks.
The three new civil engineering materials and infrastructure books are:
- Eco-efficient Materials for Mitigating Building Cooling Needs: Design, Properties and Applications, edited by Fernando Pacheco-Torgal, João Labrincha, Luísa Cabeza and Claes- Göran Granqvist
- Advances in Asphalt Materials: Road and Pavement Construction edited by Shin-Che Huang and Hervé Di Benedetto
- Acoustic Emission (AE) and Related Non-destructive Evaluation (NDE) Techniques in the Fracture Mechanics of Concrete: Fundamentals and Applications edited by Masayasu Ohtsu
The books are available on the Elsevier Store and on ScienceDirect, Elsevier’s full-text scientific database offering journal articles and book chapters from over 2,500 peer-reviewed journals and more than 33,000 book titles.
