Cell debuts design changes and expanded scientific coverage

Leading Edge adds in depth analysis section

Cambridge, December 2, 2005- Cell, a scientific journal published by Elsevier imprint Cell Press, has launched a new section, called Leading Edge, which adds pages of analysis, commentary, and essays to the popular review formats—including full reviews, minireview, and previews—in each issue.

The new design maintains the journal’s classic look while incorporating features including an updated typeface, illustrations and graphics with a consistent style, and more color throughout.

“The Leading Edge section will feature in-depth analytical articles by science writers, and essays and commentaries by eminent scientists,” Cell Editor Emilie Marcus explains. “In a time of increasing scientific specialization, we feel a responsibility to support the progress of science by promoting interdisciplinary communication. All of our content and design changes will support these goals while maintaining Cell’s reputation for high standards of research and communicating conceptual scientific advances.”

The changes debut in the December 2, 2005 issue, which is freely available online, at www.cell.com/content/issue?volume=123&issue=5.
