Elsevier Appoints Martin O’Malley as Managing Director of New Global Sales Group in Science & Technology Division
Amsterdam, 1 July, 2010 – Elsevier, the leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information, has appointed Martin O’Malley as Managing Director of the newly formed Global Sales & Customer Marketing group in the Science & Technology (S&T) division, which includes the sales teams for Academic & Government, Books and Corporate Markets, effective 1 July.
O’Malley’s appointment follows the announced departure of Roy Jakobs, Managing Director for Academic & Government Sales and Customer Marketing. Jakobs will be leaving Elsevier this summer to take a senior position in the lighting division of Philips.
“Martin O’Malley is a leader who brings great knowledge of Elsevier’s customers to his new position,“ said Youngsuk Chi, Vice Chairman and CEO S&T. “In Martin, we have a leader who has on-the-ground experience in the Americas, Europe and the Asia Pacific region, as well as experience with a wide range of customers and partners across academic and government research, education, and corporate research and development,” he added.
“I am very excited about this new role and our continued strong focus on the needs of customers in the academic, government, corporate, and professional communities,” said Martin O’Malley. “At the same time, by bringing together the wider Elsevier sales and marketing effort, we expect to further improve our ability to address shared needs across different customer groups,” he continued.
O’Malley’s position as Managing Director of Corporate Markets will be taken over by Alexander van Boetzelaer, who will spearhead the continuing effort to develop Elsevier’s corporate business.
