Philadelphia, September 24, 2018

Elsevier, the information analytics business specializing in science and health, released today the findings of a recent study that shows STATdx, Elsevier’s online diagnostic decision support tool, can help radiologists reduce diagnostic errors and is especially valuable when diagnosing rare or complex imaging cases.

The study included 60 practicing radiologists and 10 real patient cases across specialties. Half of the participants used STATdx as a referential tool and the other half did not. A clinical team scored the responses and timed completion.

The findings show:

“Reducing diagnostic errors is of paramount importance to radiologists, and these results validate the use of STATdx as an online diagnostic decision support tool,” said Dr. Paula J. Woodward, a radiology professor and Medical Director in Clinical Solutions at Elsevier. “STATdx gives instant access to the collective clinical experience and knowledge of renowned sub-specialists in every field of radiology.”

STATdx can also help protect organizations and their patients from:

  • Errors in interpretation.
  • Unnecessary testing and overutilization of radiology resources.
  • Geographically dispersed radiology operations and oversight.
  • Rising downstream healthcare costs.

More accurate imaging diagnoses reduces unnecessary radiologic testing, resulting in safety and savings in the healthcare industry.

Radiologists benefit from:

  • More than 4,300 common and complex diagnoses.
  • 200,000 expert-selected and annotated image examples.
  • More than 1,300 differential diagnosis modules.
  • Comprehensive normal imaging anatomy.
  • 20,000 easily sortable patient cases.
  • 195 basic and advanced procedures.
  • Powerful, Google-like search.
  • Compare multiple diagnoses side-by-side.
  • Follow up on the latest journal articles with RAD Search.
