Elsevier and California State University (CSU) have entered into a pilot agreement, which provides CSU researchers with access to Elsevier journals and supports open access publishing. When publishing in applicable Elsevier journals, CSU authors can choose to publish open access at no additional cost to the author.

- The author must be the corresponding author affiliated with an eligible institution
- The article must have a submission date between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021
How to publish your article open access
Once your article is accepted for publication in an applicable journal, you will be presented with the open access publishing option. All open access articles will be published and made freely available on ScienceDirect with your choice between two reuse licenses: CC-BY or CC-BY-NC-ND.
Green open access
In addition to the open access pilot agreement between Elsevier and CSU, the university’s authors can continue to choose to publish under the subscription model and self-archive their manuscript (green open access) in line with Elsevier’s sharing policy.
