What were the primary reasons for selecting Elsevier and Pure?
The main reason for going with Pure was that it was very comprehensive and out of the box. You could use the features that were in Pure without a lot of customization. Once you got that data in, Pure was very easy to pick through. I felt that with other systems, there’s a lot more work involved in actually detailing the system or that it wasn’t perhaps as comprehensive and out of the box as Pure was.
What is the best feature of Pure and why?
The best feature of Pure is that it is so interconnected. The data model is wonderful for making the connections between all the various content types within the system. The portal is a very good tool for showcasing the information of the university.
Pure gives our researchers a single place to describe all activities, research and other outcomes they are involved with. It has specifically helped Lancaster University in putting the best publications out there for REF (UK Research Excellence Framework) with ease and has also facilitated exposing Lancaster’s research to a wide community.Masud Khokhar, Head of Digital Innovation at Lancaster University

Why did you choose Pure?
“The main drivers for us in choosing Pure were we wanted to have a system that brought all of our research information together in one place. We also wanted a system that was going to enable us to put our research assessment submission together easily and transparently.”
How do you use Pure?
“We use Pure to put together our submission to the Research Excellence Framework in 2014. It made putting that information together so much easier because it was so much more transparent. We were able to put all of our outputs together into one place and to build up our submission over a matter of months. And then eventually when we were happy that it was completely together, we actually used Pure just to interface directly to the Research Excellence Framework submission system, so it made my life so much easier.”
Speaking as REF Manager it has transformed our REF preparation process by bringing data into one place and enabling us to work with it in conjunction with our academic managers. It enables us to deliver Open Access compliance & Research Data compliance. We are just moving into using it to help us understand the broader activities of our staff (Activities module) and will be launching our instance of the Advanced Portal shortly.Research Manager at an educational institution that wished to remain anonymous
