Talk Title: Ecology and evolution of multidrug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis

Sebastien Gagneux is Professor of Infection Biology and Head of Department at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute / University of Basel. His PhD focused on the molecular epidemiology of meningococcal meningitis. For his postdoc, Sebastien switched his focus on tuberculosis, which has remained his main research topic since then.

Sebastien's work focuses on the ecology and evolution of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis Complex (MTBC), combining large-scale comparative and population genomic studies with genomic epidemiology and various experimental approaches in the laboratory. A particular focus has been exploring the genomic and ecological basis of host tropism across the MTBC as well as the causes and consequences of antimicrobial resistance.
