Michael Short is an Associate Professor with Tenure in MIT's Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering. His group focuses on coupled effects and "dirty physics" challenges in nuclear materials, including the prediction, prevention, and mitigation of failure modes such as corrosion, fouling, and radiation damage. A particular passion of the Short group is combined in situ effects, such as simultaneous irradiation/corrosion in molten salts and liquid metals, testing plasma facing materials with plasma in situ ion irradiation transient grating spectroscopy (PI3TGS), and directly measuring radiation damage using stored energy.
