Talk Title: Advances in predictive and explanatory modelling in ecology by evolutionary computation.

Friedrich Recknagel got his PhD and Dr.habil. from the Dresden University of Technology in Germany. Since 1993 he is Professor at the University of Adelaide in Australia. He has also affiliations with the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the North‐West University, South Africa, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China.

He is Founding Editor-in-Chief of the journal Ecological Informatics, and Editorial Board member of the journals Environmental Modelling and Software and Ecological Modelling. He has pioneered ecological applications of machine learning and the discipline Ecological Informatics. His research interests are in deterministic, inferential and hybrid modelling, quantitative watershed ecology, lake eutrophication, cyanobacteria blooms, bio‐assessment and phenology of freshwater systems. He has been invited as Keynote Speaker to 18 International Conferences, published 5 books and more than 150 peer-reviewed papers.
