Dr. S. J. Vijay, Registrar of Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Deemed University, Coimbatore is basically a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He graduated with a B.E. Production Engineering Degree in 2002 and an M.E. (CAD/CAM) in 2005. He has been working in Karunya University since 2005. He completed his Ph.D. from Anna University, Chennai, in 2014. He worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at Jeonju University, South Korea, during 2016 and 2017. His major research area focuses on additive manufacturing, friction stir welding and allied processes, composite materials, nanomaterials, and carbon materials, focusing on applications in the fields of aerospace, aeronautical, marine, and electrical machines.
He has worked in various portfolios at Karunya which includes Head (Centre for Research in Metallurgy); Head (Internal Quality Assurance Cell), Director (Research and Consultancy) and currently the Registrar. His administrative experience spans over 5 years in his tenure of 20 years at KITS.
To his credit, he has published more than 70 papers in internationally reputed journals and conferences, he has over 6 patents, and has commercialized two products. He has completed funded research projects and consultancy assignments worth 2.5 crores from the Government, Private sector, and Industries. Currently, he is involved in developing a novel sustainable process for recycling metal scraps in collaboration with the Boeing Company and through DST-WMT grant.
He has been involved in shaping the lives of many students. His students have been placed in companies like Quest Global, CTS, TCS, Wipro, Capgemini, Boeing Company, Rolls Royce, Daimler Chrysler, Nissan, Tata, Hyundai, and Infotech. A few have started their own ventures and become job providers. He has also guided students to get admitted to foreign universities for their master’s degrees. With nearly 20 years of experience as a teacher, guide, and mentor, he has influenced the lives of many students to become leaders who can solve the problems of humankind.
