I’m Juan Pablo Scarano Pereira, a 4th Year Medical Student from the University of Complutense in Spain.
My favourite hobbies are playing football, learning languages and singing Opera.
Here’s a little bit more about me!
So, why medicine? Who or what inspired you to go to Medical School?
I chose Medicine because of the people. I believe it is one of the most rewarding degrees that can exist. Whenever I go back home from the hospital, I have an incredible feeling of happiness after having helped so many people in just a few hours. Helping people and contributing to society has always been a priority in my life, and I knew that studying Medicine was undoubtedly the best way to achieve this goal.
What’s been your highlight so far in Medical School?
What I love the most about medical school is how much students help each other. At my Hospital, students are constantly sharing their notes and giving their advice to their classmates so that they can do better in their internships and exams. I believe cooperation between students is very important because as future medical doctors, we will need to work in teams helping each other.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to somebody about to start Medical School?
I would just tell the new student to relax and enjoy the career. Even if it is very tough sometimes, it is extremely rewarding and at the end of the day every single hour spent on studying is worth it.
Aside from medicine, what are you passionate about?
In my life there are many things I love doing other than Medicine. I love learning languages and discovering new cultures. Moreover, because of this, I decided to participate at an international exchange program this year in France. I do also love singing opera. I started singing three years ago and I am amazed by all the progress I have done ever since. From being part of a chorus to participating at an international festival last year in Romania in a real theatre with a real orchestra.
Why did you enter the ClinicalKey Global Challenge?
When I read about the opportunity of participating in this competition, I did not think about it twice. I consider myself as someone who is always going the extra mile for being among the best. I was sure that being among the 12 finalists was not going to be easy whatsoever, but I just wanted to know how far I could go with the knowledge I had.
Besides that, the world of medical leadership has always interested me, and I knew this opportunity could become the once in a life time experience that is right now for me.
If we asked your friends/ family to describe you in three words what would they be?
Ambitious, disciplined and hardworking
