Organized by Elsevier, the global information analytics company specializing in science and health, and the Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB), hosted by the Military Medical Academy at the Continuing Medical Education building, "Teaching Excellence in Medical Education" seminar launched today. The two-day seminar supports the national initiative that aims at improving the quality of higher education teaching strategy throughout Egypt to implement a competency-based, integrated education model.
Professor Ronald Harden, who is recognized as one of the leading international figures in medical education with an active presence in more than 40 countries, is the key speaker at the seminar. His work and numerous awards in medical education led to a reputation as one of the foremost scholars, practitioners and international authorities on medical education. Presentations will highlight innovations in medical education, challenges and opportunities, and the changing roles of educators in the future of medical education. During the interactive workshop, attendees will form groups and implement agile methodologies to design a solution to solve a problem they face in their day-to-day teaching.
"To date, more than two million Egyptians have accessed and benefited from EKB, the largest digital library in the world. EKB will play a significant role in developing the medical education system in Egypt by providing first-hand information to educators, healthcare professionals, students, researchers and scholars alike," said H.E. Dr. Tarek Shawky, Minister of Education and president of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank.
The modern history of Egyptian medical education dates back to 1827, when Muhammad Ali Pasha established a military teaching school in Abu Zaabal.
Egypt has always been a pioneer in medical education, and the initiative thrive to establish the foundation for sustainable excellence in medical education in Egypt.
"We are pleased to contribute to this education forum, and we look forward to adding value through Elsevier’s medical information solutions, which we are confident will help in enhancing the medical education platform in Egypt," said David Game, eProduct Director, Education EMEALAAP, Elsevier, and design-thinking workshop lead at the seminar.
Attending the seminar are the deans of medical schools in Egypt; in addition to 150 carefully selected academics by the supreme council of universities, who will be equipped with the essential skills to execute the government's initiative and reform program in Egypt.
The national initiative started in June 2016 when the Medical Sector of the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities realized the lack of true integration in the medical curriculum and established a committee to reform the medical education for the bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery.
