The 15th International Symposium on Lactic Acid Bacteria will take place from 23-27 August 2026 at the Hotel Zuiderduin, Egmond aan Zee, The Netherlands.

Just steps from Strand van Egmond aan Zee and the charming village of Egmond aan Zee, Hotel Zuiderduin is perfectly placed for delegates to enjoy the best of the Dutch coast during their free time. The wide, sandy beach stretches for several kilometres and is ideal for walking, sunbathing, watersports or a relaxing drink at one of the friendly beach pavilions — all just a few minutes’ stroll from the hotel.
The surrounding Noordhollands Duinreservaat (North Holland Dune Reserve) offers miles of well-marked hiking and cycling trails through dunes, forests and open landscapes — a refreshing escape into nature right on your doorstep.
Within the village you’ll find J C J van Speijk Lighthouse, an iconic 19th-century lighthouse worth spotting on a seaside walk, plus cosy cafés, ice cream spots and boutique shops.
For those eager to explore further, the historic town of Alkmaar with its famous cheese market, canals, terraces and cultural highlights is a short train or bike ride away. Amsterdam, Haarlem and other classic Dutch destinations are also easily reachable for a day trip if you have more time.

Accommodation
Accommodation is provided at Hotel Zuiderduin, the conference venue in Egmond aan Zee. Residential registration rates include accommodation at the hotel, allowing delegates to stay on site throughout the event.
The hotel offers comfortable, modern rooms with en-suite facilities, free Wi-Fi, and workspace. Leisure facilities and the nearby beach provide opportunities to relax after conference sessions. Staying at the venue ensures easy access to all conference activities and maximises networking opportunities.

The companies are calling/emailing conference attendees, using email addresses which appear very similar to official Elsevier email addresses, and claiming to be the “official” housing bureau and/or authorized by Elsevier to book hotel/travel accommodations for the conference. Travel
Getting to Egmond aan Zee
By Air
The nearest international airport is Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS), the main hub for international flights into the Netherlands. Schiphol is located approximately 45–50 km south of Egmond aan Zee, making onward travel straightforward by public transport or car.
By Train and Bus (Recommended) Egmond aan Zee does not have its own train station. From Schiphol Airport or Amsterdam Central Station, take a direct train to Alkmaar. Trains run frequently and the journey typically takes around 35–40 minutes.
From Alkmaar Station, take bus 165 towards Egmond aan Zee. The bus journey takes approximately 20 minutes, and services run regularly throughout the day. The bus stop in Egmond aan Zee is only a short walk from Hotel Zuiderduin.
By Taxi or Car A taxi from Schiphol Airport to Hotel Zuiderduin takes approximately 40–45 minutes, depending on traffic.
If travelling by car, follow signs towards Alkmaar via the A9 motorway, then continue to Egmond aan Zee. The hotel is clearly signposted within the town.
Parking Hotel Zuiderduin offers on-site parking, subject to availability. Additional public parking options are available nearby within Egmond aan Zee.
Local Transport Tips • Dutch public transport is reliable, frequent and easy to use. • Train tickets can be purchased online, via apps, or at stations. • For up-to-date journey planning, delegates are advised to use national transport planners such as NS or 9292.

Yes, there are two disabled parking spaces on the parking deck and 1 in the parking garage.

Toilets are on the ground floor, where you will find the plenary room. We don’t have toilets on the first floor.
