Transforming gender culture at MIT

Insights from professors behind the groundbreaking MIT report

Not Alone: Conversation with Leaders brings you the spoken words of leaders who have changed the world of research, academia and business. In a previous episode, you heard from Dr Nancy Hopkins, who spearheaded the historic report A Study on the Status of Women Faculty in Science at MIT. In this episode, we go behind the scenes and interview three MIT professors who were major players in changing the gender culture at MIT:

  • Prof Lorna Gibson led efforts in the School of Engineering.

  • Prof Lotte Bailyn not only organized women in the School of Management but shepherded the efforts through MIT’s governance process as Chair of the MIT Faculty.

  • Prof Sylvia Ceyer brings a unique perspective as an original member of the 17 women in science that started the movement.

This post is from the Not Alone newsletter, a monthly publication that showcases new perspectives on global issues directly from research and academic leaders.
