Elsevier and the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission (JRC)(opens in new tab/window) have entered into an agreement to enable JRC researchers to comply with the European Commission's reuse policy when publishing in Elsevier journals.

The Joint Research Centre of the European Commission (JRC) requires JRC researchers to make their publications freely available through open access whenever they are corresponding authors. Details about how to comply are outlined below.

How to comply

  Authors can choose to publish gold open access in Elsevier’s open access or hybrid journals

• ●

  When publishing open access, the corresponding author will be given a choice of Creative Commons licenses — JRC requires that authors select a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license

• ●

  Upon final publication, Elsevier will send to Europe PMC the final published journal article (PJA) as it appears on ScienceDirect

  • ●

    Europe PMC should link back to the final version of the article hosted on ScienceDirect, via its DOI, so that the article can be cited

  • ●

    Given the focus of Europe PMC towards health and life sciences, deposit will be limited to journals in these areas

• ●

  An article publication charge (APC) is required to make an article open access

  • ●

    Elsevier's APCs range between c$150 and c$6,000 US Dollars per publication, exclude tax and are journal specific — please refer to the guide for authors on the journal homepage

• ●

  When publishing with Elsevier, the only way a researcher can fully comply with JRC’s OA policy is to select the gold open access option
