Connect the science to your next R&D decision
A result from another field can suggest a new R&D direction. Citation studies connect scientific papers with later patented inventions1 and associate highly cited research with unusual combinations of prior knowledge.2,3 The practical test is whether a finding’s mechanism, methods and conditions fit your problem.
Not faster research, bolder research. LeapSpace shows you connections beyond your own field, and the evidence to decide which ones are worth the risk.Adrian Raudaschl

Frame the investigation around your goal
A drug-discovery scientist evaluating an antibody–drug conjugate may need to connect target biology with payload and linker evidence. An energy engineer comparing carbon-capture sorbents needs to examine regeneration conditions alongside capture performance.
Those questions require evidence in context. Elsevier reports 23+ million full-text peer-reviewed articles and books and 2.6 billion cited references from Scopus abstracts. LeapSpace’s full text accounts for 56% of all recent global research citations and 42% of all global research articles published since 2021.4
Full-text methods and limitations help you examine applicability. Publisher-neutral discovery broadens exploration; the independent Advisory Board informs product development. Reading or downloading articles requires appropriate access.
Choose your sources and search depth
Bring your existing evidence into a personal Project: DOI-linked papers, PDF or DOCX files and associated conversations. Search that collection alone or alongside wider LeapSpace content.
Use Standard Search for an initial cited synthesis, or Deep Research for iterative planning, searching and refinement into a cited report.
Explore topics opens a research conversation. For specialist input, use Discover expertsopens in new tab/window; for potential research support, use Find fundingopens in new tab/window.
Compare the conditions that change your choice
A formulation scientist may need an adhesive that holds in service yet releases for recycling. A battery engineer needs to separate cell-performance evidence from manufacturing assumptions. A power-electronics engineer needs to assess SiC device losses alongside thermal and packaging conditions.
Use Compare Tables to extract the same methods, results or conditions across papers, then inspect the source records. In responses, Reference Details and Link to statement explain the cited basis.
Develop a rationale others can examine
For a MedTech evidence specialist, an imaging result must be examined in its study context before it informs an intended-use rationale. Claim Radar retrieves research abstracts to examine support and counterevidence.
Writing Coach brings evidence and reasoning into drafting; you decide what to qualify, substantiate or retain. Claim Radar also examines selected text through the Microsoft Word add-in.
Find the expertise or support to continue
An aerospace propulsion engineer may need expertise across hydrogen fuel-cell subsystems. Discover expertsopens in new tab/window matches topics with authors’ published work; Find fundingopens in new tab/window surfaces potential opportunities. Confirm specialist fit and funder eligibility at the source.

Explore the technical direction in the LeapSpace roadmap
The roadmap’s technical direction is to connect more of the investigation: reason across multiple paths, surface gaps and uncertainty, preserve context between sessions and assess claims in working documents. Use it to examine how LeapSpace’s development priorities could fit your next R&D requirements.

LeapSpace is designed for research questions grounded in scientific literature. It brings Scopus records and licensed full text together with cited synthesis, source inspection, comparison and drafting. Corporate R&D teams can investigate a scientific question and examine the evidence supporting their work within the same workspace.
LeapSpace brings together full text from ScienceDirectopens in new tab/window, selected licensed full text from leading publishers and societies, and Scopus abstracts and metadata. This publisher-neutral scientific foundation combines full-text depth with broad research coverage, helping Corporate R&D teams investigate questions across disciplines.
Publisher-neutral discovery ranks research for relevance to the task rather than publisher ownership. For Corporate R&D, that supports investigating a question across disciplines and publishing sources. The reference list lets you see which sources informed a response.
The independent LeapSpace Advisory Board provides guidance on discovery algorithms, publisher neutrality, explainable outputs and responsible AI development. Its role is to scrutinize how the workspace evolves. It does not assess individual user claims or replace the scientist’s or engineer’s review of the evidence.
Standard Search builds a search plan from your question, then uses meaning-based and keyword searches across Scopus records and available full text. It returns a cited synthesis with visible processing steps. Use it to orient around a target, material or technical problem and identify sources for closer reading.
Use Deep Research for complex, multi-step questions that require synthesis across many documents. Deep Research uses agentic AI to investigate the question and produce a detailed report. Review the research steps, study scope, key findings, assumptions and limitations, conclusions and recommendations to assess how the evidence relates to your research or development question.
Explore topics helps you frame an investigation in natural language. Describe the goal, application and constraints, then follow up on unfamiliar mechanisms, alternative approaches or gaps in the literature. Choose Standard Search or Deep Research for the depth your question needs.
A personal Project keeps papers, supported uploads and related conversations together around an investigation. Add papers by DOI and upload PDF or DOCX files, then search the project collection alone or alongside wider LeapSpace content. This keeps continuing work organized around its chosen sources.
Discover expertsopens in new tab/window uses topic-based matching across Scopus author profiles and published work. Open the author preview and matching papers to examine relevant contributions and affiliations. Use this evidence to develop a shortlist for specialist input or collaboration, then confirm current fit and availability before outreach.
Find fundingopens in new tab/window searches curated opportunities relevant to your topic. For Corporate R&D, funding information adds a signal of where research attention is developing. Use it alongside scientific literature to explore areas targeted for investment, the funding organizations involved and potential research directions. Confirm current calls, deadlines and organizational eligibility with the funder.
Reading Assistantopens in new tab/window responds to questions about a ScienceDirect article or book chapter using that document’s text. Select its references to highlight supporting passages. It can help you examine a method or result; availability depends on full-text access and applicable ScienceDirect entitlement.
Compare Tables places papers cited in a Standard Search response into rows. Add columns for what matters to your investigation, such as materials, methods, experimental conditions, performance measures, or reported outcomes. It extracts those details from available source content. "Information not found" can reflect source depth or extraction limits.
Select a citation to open Reference Details and inspect the source record, abstract or permitted excerpt. Link to statement explains how the claim aligns with that cited source. Check whether the claim preserves the source’s meaning and limits before reusing it in a brief or recommendation.
Claim Radar searches for relevant Scopus-indexed research abstracts and assesses their relationship to a claim. It surfaces supporting, contradicting and mixed evidence, alongside key insights and source records you can inspect. Run it on a response claim, Writing Coach assertions or selected Word text, then inspect the returned sources.
Writing Coach brings a draft editor and conversational research assistant together. Use it to examine reasoning, seek relevant literature and identify what needs substantiation in a scientific or technical draft. Claim Radar can assess assertions within the draft. You choose which suggested changes to accept, revise or reject.
Highlight a passage and choose Check for Claims from the LeapSpace ribbon or context menu. The Word add-in extracts claims from that selection and lists them in a task pane. Select a claim to inspect research evidence alongside your draft, then decide whether to revise or qualify it.
