About the Authors

Dr. Lydia Morris is a Clinical Psychologist who has extensive experience of working in mental health primary care contexts. The manual was in part written while Dr. Morris was employed by Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust.  She has been affiliated with the University of Manchester for much of the duration of the manual production and is now employed by the University of Salford.

Dr. Phil McEvoy is service director of a primary care team (Six Degrees Social Enterprise, Salford, Greater Manchester). Six Degrees Social Enterprise delivers socially innovative mental health services that are at the leading edge of practice. In recent years they have been finalists in the National Positive Practice in Mental Health Awards, the National Patient Experience Awards and the Health Service Journal Awards.

Dr. Warren Mansell is a highly regarded researcher, who has published a number of texts on psychological approaches. These include: Cognitive Behavioral Processes Across Disorders (Harvey, Watkins, Mansell & Shafran, 2004); a self-help book called Coping with fears and phobias: a step-by-step guide to understanding and facing your anxieties (Mansell, 2007); and a number of therapy manuals (Mansell, Carey & Tai, 2013; Carey, Mansell & Tai, 2015; Stott et al., 2010), including Transdiagnostic CBT using Method of Levels Therapy (Mansell, Carey, & Tai, 2013). He has been employed by the University of Manchester throughout the duration of the manual production.

Ms. Wallwork, Comiskey and Bates are all clinicians who were working within the Six Degrees primary care team during the development of the Take Control Course and production of this manual. They all worked in this context for over 6-years.  They have provided input regarding the relevance of the material to the clients they work with and the context they work within.  They have also contributed to the development of supplementary resources, e.g. training videos.

About the Book

Transdiagnostic Group Therapy Training and Implementation provides clinicians with a user-friendly roadmap for delivering a brief, transdiagnostic group therapy that can be used for patients suffering from stress, depression, anxiety, and a range of other related mental health problems.

This is supplemented by over an hour of training videos hosted on the book’s companion website, visually demonstrating how to effectively implement the therapy. The book introduces the empirical research that has led to a greater emphasis on transdiagnostic treatment approaches, and details how to implement each phase of the therapy, supported by clinical examples to make practical application easier.
