Our people are our strength. Inclusion and diversity are important to our future and we are fully committed to creating a fair and equitable work environment for our people. We need the engagement of people from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and ideas to achieve real innovation for our customers around the world.
The core mission to empower knowledge extends to the communities where we operate. We are proud to say that our employees show commitment and care to the local and global communities through a number of initiatives and programs.
What makes us different? What are we passionate about? What drives us every day?
Look at what makes us, us.
Inclusion & Diversity
Our people team is responsible for recruiting talented individuals and helping them develop in their role. We provide innovative learning and development opportunities for our employees and work with them to create an inclusive culture that enables a high-performing and engaged workforce.
Additionally, the newly launched Inclusion & Diversity Board brings together nine influential academic scientists, policymakers, I&D and gender researchers, and professionals in STEM who are committed to driving change in gender balance.
Employee Resource Groups
Committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce, our employee resource groups (ERG’s) foster an inclusive environment in which employees feel challenged, empowered and supported in developing and maximizing their personal potential and value to the company.
We also have more than 40 Employee Resource Groups across the business, such as women’s forums and pride groups, to facilitate support, mentoring and community involvement. In 2018 we held our first-ever Diversity Awareness Month with a competition open to all employees in order to showcase commitment to D&I across RELX and a video with testimonials from senior leaders on why I&D matters to them.
RE Cares is RELX's global community program that supports employee and corporate engagement that makes a positive impact on society through volunteerism and giving. Our staff have up to two days’ paid leave per year for their own community work. In addition to local initiatives of importance to employees, RE Cares aligns with our business strengths by focusing on education for disadvantaged young people which furthers:
- universal, sustainable access to information
- advance of science and health
- the protection of society
- the promotion of rule of law and access to justice
- fostering communities
Different activities are organized throughout the company. In our headquarters in Amsterdam, employees have for instance volunteered in a number of projects and activities, including teaching at the IMC Weekend School, volunteering at the Wheechair Fencing World Cup and donating to the Christmas Food Bank Collection.
To encourage generosity and community involvement, the Elsevier Foundation provides matching funds to charitable organizations that Elsevier employees personally support. Through the Elsevier Foundation Matching Gift Program, the company supports employee gifts to non-profit agencies and schools throughout the world and extends the reach of Elsevier Foundation’s corporate giving beyond our site communities. By matching employee gifts, employee and company resources are leveraged for maximum community benefit.
