Rosa Rademakers

Rosa Rademakers is an internationally recognized leader in the genetics of frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Her lab has identified and characterized numerous causal, risk and modifier genes, most notably in C9orf72, which she discovered as the genetic basis for a majority of ALS and FTD cases. In 2019, she relocated from Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL, to lead the VIB Center for Molecular Neurology in Antwerp, Belgium. She received the Potamkin Prize in 2016 and in 2021 became the first female recipient of the Generet Award for Rare Diseases.
