Topic: Residual Stresses and their Role in Failure Analysis

Dr. Clegg is currently Director of the consulting company Explicom and is Adjunct Professor at Ǫueensland University of Technology (ǪUT). At Explicom, Dr. Clegg is actively involved as an expert witness in engineering failure analysis projects, particularly for insurance companies and legal firms. He also maintains an portfolio consulting/research projects assisting major industries in Australia to address persistent materials failure issues. From 2009 until 2022, Dr. Clegg was Editor in Chief of the journal Engineering Failure Analysis and oversaw its growth over that period from a small journal to one of the key journals in structural integrity at Elsevier. He was co-chair of the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th International Conferences on Engineering Failure Analysis and continues his involvement with the journal as Honorary Editor. Dr. Clegg studied at the University of Ǫueensland and the University of Cambridge and worked at University College London, Ǫueensland University of Technology and Central Ǫueensland University, where he was Professor of Industrial Materials Science and Director of the Process Engineering and Light Metals Centre. Dr. Clegg’s research has been focused on environmental fracture in process industries and the application of fracture mechanics in engineering failure analysis. His most recent work at ǪUT has been in materials degradation in solar thermal power generation.
