Topic: From Fatigue Design to Life Extension: Driving Net-Zero with Sustainable Offshore Wind Energy

University of Strathclyde

Ali Mehmanparast (PhD, MBA, CEng, CMgr) is Professor of Structural Integrity at the University of Strathclyde. His current research focuses on the design and integrity management of offshore renewable energy assets, working closely with industrial designers, operators, and consultants, as well as academic experts and international standardisation bodies, to support the global transition to net zero. Throughout his career, he has led large-scale high-impact national and international research projects on the failure analysis of engineering structures in harsh environments, with his findings incorporated into international standards such as DNV-RP-C203. He serves on the management board of the Strathclyde-Oxford-Edinburgh CDT in Wind and Marine Energy Systems and Structures and previously managed the Cranfield-Oxford-Strathclyde CDT in Renewable Energy Marine Structures. Through these leadership roles, he has trained over 120 PhD specialists for the Offshore Renewable Energy sector. With over 140 peer-reviewed publications, he also serves as Energy Engineering Subject Editor for Elsevier’s journal of Engineering Failure Analysis and sits on the editorial boards of several leading international journals.
