University of Exeter, UK

Chris Bass is a Professor of Applied Entomology at the University of Exeter. Bass is a former BBSRC Dave Philips fellows and ERC consolidator fellow and moved from Rothamsted Research to Exeter in 2016. The lab’s research employs genomic approaches in combination with post-genomic functional approaches to understand the molecular basis of adaptive traits in insects. A primary focus is the evolution of insect resistance to natural and synthetic insecticides. We translate this knowledge into tools and strategies to prevent, slow or overcome the development of resistance in pest insects. In addition to our work on crop pests we also study the molecular determinants of beneficial insect sensitivity to insecticides. Finally we collaborate with colleagues in the UK and internationally to bring our expertise to the study of other traits in insects.
