Shaping our equitable healthy future 60th Anniversary of Social Science & Medicine
15-17 October 2027 | Chengdu, China
We look forward to welcoming you to the first edition of the International Conference on Social Science & Medicine 2027 held under the theme Shaping our equitable healthy future and celebrating the 60th Anniversary of Social Science & Medicineopens in new tab/window.
The International Conference on Social Science & Medicine 2027 aims to be a reflection on the past, current and future developments of social science and medicine, using the legacy of Peter McEwan, founder of Social Science & Medicineopens in new tab/window. His original thoughts (from the 1967 opening editorial) were:
The dominant purpose of SSM will be to serve the medical and social sciences so that the inter-relationship between them may multiply and the results that are achieved may grow in influence and effectiveness.
In essence, his original objectives for the journal were to:
be truly interdisciplinary;
be truly international;
be truly evidence based; and,
work to improve the human condition.
“His legacy is the understanding he pioneered between the sciences, and his bringing together of different disciplines, particularly through his groundbreaking conferences which introduced a range of experts to each other who may otherwise not have met.”
As a global community of social science and health researchers, we will come together to at this 60th anniversary of the journal to determine: have we met those objectives?
This new conference is aimed to engage with researchers in China and the wider region, to consider the key topics which will help us develop insights into the future of human health.
