International Women in Mathematics Day

In celebration of International Women in Mathematics Day opens in new tab/window on 12th May, the Mathematics publishing team and Editors of relevant journals have curated a selection of impactful papers published over the last three years (since 2022). Each featured paper has a female mathematician as the corresponding author, and was selected for its impact, novelty, and contribution to the field.

12th May was chosen to honour Maryam Mirzakhani opens in new tab/window, who was born on this day in 1977. She was the first woman to win the Fields Medal opens in new tab/window, the most prestigious prize in mathematics.

This collection aims to recognise and celebrate inspiring Women in Mathematics – at all career stages – whose research and collaboration have significantly influenced the Mathematics community in recent years.

We would like to acknowledge that many more women have made significant contributions to Mathematics, and it is not possible to feature every deserving researcher here. We are equally grateful to all Authors, Reviewers, and Editors who have helped advance the present state of knowledge.

By highlighting a few of the most impactful recent papers, we sincerely hope we can draw attention to the invaluable contributions of Women in Mathematics, inspire other women everywhere to pursue and celebrate achievements in the field, and encourage a welcoming, inclusive environment for everyone.
