The mental well-being of clinicians is a top priority

2022年12月14日

MJ Erickson-Hogue, MD, FAAP

A south Asian woman rests her hand on her forehead against the glass, looking distressed.

According to Elsevier’s "Clinician of the Future" report, only 26 per cent of clinicians felt that the support given towards their well-being was viewed as a priority.

Clinical burnout is a growing problem today – so what can be done to help? In Elsevier’s Clinician of the Future report, only 26 percent of clinicians felt that the support given towards their well-being was viewed as a priority.

Well-being is important not just for clinicians but for patients, too, as it can lead to avoidable medical errors and, therefore, poorer clinical outcomes.

Dr. MJ Erickson-Hogue, Point of Care, Digital Content, Elsevier Clinical Solutions, presents the need for healthcare systems to provide a safe space in which clinicians can express their feelings rather than be judged, for self-care routines to be implemented and for the workload burden to be reduced by tapping into technological solutions to avoid being overwhelmed by the increase in research and data.

The healthcare landscape has changed: attitudes and actions must, too.
