Dr. Giuseppe Orlando, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Surgery and Regenerative Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and a practicing surgeon-scientist at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine. A Marie Curie Fellow, Dr. Orlando specializes in kidney and endocrine pancreas transplantation, bioengineering, and regenerative therapies.
He earned his MD, general surgery, and PhD degrees from the University of Rome, Italy, and pursued advanced training in abdominal organ transplantation, transplant immunology, regenerative medicine, and tissue engineering across leading institutions in Paris (France), Brussels (Belgium), Oxford (England), and Winston-Salem (USA).
Dr. Orlando currently serves as President of the Cell Transplant and Regenerative Medicine Society (CTRMS) and chairs the Transplant Regenerative Medicine Advisory Committee of the American Society of Transplantation (AST).
The overarching goal of Dr. Orlando’s scholarly activity is to unite the fields of transplantation and regenerative medicine—joining forces to build a shared future through interdisciplinary research, collaborative innovation, and the advancement of transformative therapies.
