Rebecca Cox

Rebecca Jane Cox leads the Influenza Centre at the University of Bergen and Haukeland University Hospital in Norway, where she heads a team of 15 scientists. She completed her PhD in 1995 at the London Hospital Medical College, University of London, UK, followed by postdoctoral positions at Guy’s Hospital, UK, and the University of Bergen, Norway.
With over 30 years of experience, her research spans influenza and other respiratory viruses, with particular emphasis on vaccine development and evaluation, immunology, correlates of protection, and pandemic preparedness. She has a strong focus on clinical trials, human cohort studies, and translational immunology. She has extensive expertise in analysing both humoral and cellular immune responses to infection and vaccination, including antibody characterisation, T-cell profiling, and functional immune assays. She serves in advisory roles with international health organisations, including the WHO, EU, and European Medicines Agency.
She is a trustee and Chair of the Education Committee for the International Society for Respiratory Viruses, where she is passionate about training the next generation of scientists. She is also a Senior Editor for the jounral Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses and has authored more than 180 peer-reviewed publications.
