Mingguang Yao

Dr. Mingguang Yao is a Professor at Jilin University's State Key Laboratory of High Pressure and Superhard Materials. After earning his MS and PhD in Condensed Matter Physics from Jilin University, he conducted postdoctoral research at Umeå University (Sweden) and Université Lyon 1 (France). He joined Jilin University in 2010, becoming Full Professor in 2013. He was a Visiting Scientist at the Earth and Planets Laboratory, Carnegie Institution for Science (2018-2019). Dr. Yao's research focuses on discovering novel carbon and carbon-based materials under extreme pressure conditions. By developing new high-pressure synthesis methods, he has successfully obtained sp³ amorphous carbon, hexagonal diamond, and other advanced carbon phases.
