Xuemei Bai

Xuemei Bai is a Distinguished Professor and an ARC Laureate Fellow at Australian National University. Her research focuses on the science and policy of rapid urbanization and urban system sustainability. She has published extensively on these topics, including many in Nature, Science etc. She held prominent leadership roles in international science initiatives, including Earth Commissioner, Future Earth Science Committee member, and Vice Chair of International Human Dimensional Program for Global Change. She is a Coordinating Lead Author for IPCC Cities Special Report, and served as a Lead Author for the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, Global Energy Assessment, IPBES Global Assessment, and IPCC AR6. She is a Fellow of Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, and was named as one of the World's 100 Most Influential People in Climate Change Policy in 2019 and 2022. She is the Laureate of the Volvo Environment Prize 2018, and the Global Economy Prize 2021.
