Professor Sumate Chaiprapat is Director of the Energy Systems Research Institute at Prince of Songkla University, Thailand. His teaching and research focus on bioresource recovery and environmental biotechnology, with particular emphasis on anaerobic technologies for industrial and agricultural wastes and wastewater reclamation. His research interests include the valorization of lignocellulosic residues, biochemical conversion of sulfur, nitrogen, and carbon, anaerobic digestion and fermentation, value-added utilization of digestate, and advanced anaerobic membrane processes. He established the Biogas and Biorefinery Research Laboratory, which works closely with industry to translate research into practical applications. He has supervised more than 40 Ph.D. and Master’s students, holds five patents, and has authored over 100 journal papers and book chapters, with an h-index of 30. He is also a recipient of the 2025 Thailand Research Excellence Award in engineering and industrial research.
