Professor Dr. Nafarizal Nayan is a Professor at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), where he currently serves as the Director of the Research Management Centre (RMC). He has extensive experience in university research management, engineering research, innovation, and academic leadership.
He obtained his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctor of Engineering degrees in Electrical Engineering and Electronic Engineering from Nagoya University, Japan, and completed Executive Education in Managing Innovation at Harvard Business School, USA.
His research expertise encompasses microelectronics, semiconductor technology, plasma processing, sputtering processes, electronics, and nanotechnology, with particular emphasis on thin-film materials and semiconductor-related technologies. He has published extensively in international journals and has accumulated more than 2,700 Scopus citations with an H-index of 28.
Prof. Dr. Nayan has held several significant leadership and research management positions at UTHM, including Director of the Institute for Integrated Engineering (I2E), Principal Researcher at the Shamsuddin Research Centre for Microelectronics and Nanotechnology (MiNT-SRC), and Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation). He has also contributed to the development of research infrastructure, secured major research and development funding, and supported the strengthening of UTHM’s research ecosystem.
Beyond UTHM, he has served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Lahore, Pakistan, Research Advisor at the Centre of Excellence for Microsystems Technology (MiCTEC), UniMAP, and Foreign Researcher at Hokkaido University, Japan. He is also actively involved in professional and academic networks, including the IEEE Electron Device Society Malaysia Chapter.
