Talk: Advancements in nano-enabled membrane distillation for sustainable water-energy-environment nexus
Dr. Alicia An has received her PhD from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Then She has been working in the field of Membrane-based water treatment more than 15 years and published over 100 papers on emerging technologies such as Membrane Distillation (MD), Forward Osmosis and hybrid Reverse Osmosis for removing emerging pollutants and resource recovery.
Dr. An’s research has primarily dealt with the fabrication of advanced superhydrophobic (and omniphobic) porous polymeric membranes, developing a fundamental understanding of, and detection methods for, membrane wetting, scaling and fouling, and their practical applications in MD through industry collaboration. She is listed in the Top 2% of the world’s most highly cited scientists from the report published by Elsevier and Stanford University since 2020. Dr. An has been conferred the “RGC Research Fellow” in the Research Fellow Scheme (RFS) by HKRGC in 2022. The Research Fellow Scheme (RFS) is to provide sustained support to outstanding researchers at Associate Professor rank at UGC-funded universities in Hong Kong, to facilitate their full dedication to research and development and help universities attract and retain research talent. She is also an Associate Editor in Process Safety and Environmental Protection and Editorial board member in Desalination (IF: 11.211) and Case Studies in Chemical and Environmental Engineering.
