Renewable Energy Finance: Theory and Practice, Second Edition integrates the special characteristics of renewable energy with key elements of project finance. Through a mixture of fundamental analysis and real-life examples, readers learn how renewable energy project finance deals mix finance, public policy, legal, engineering and environmental issues. This book investigates the economics of large-scale green power production and incentive mechanisms and how they fit into the global energy industries. It also examines how distributed energy resources such as residential solar and batteries can be financed at the scale needed to play a significant role in the future energy mix.The authors examine how renewable energy projects get financed and built using modern non-recourse project finance structures. It also highlights recent innovations such as Green Bonds and Sustainability Linked Loans that have emerged in the context of ESG investments. The scope of the book is global, and it illustrates how renewable energy project finance has evolved in various places (such as the tax-equity structures used in the United States, due to the corporate tax incentives used there) to cope with local regulatory and policy environments.

The Danube River and The Western Black Sea Coast: Complex Transboundary Management is a brand-new volume in the Elsevier Ecohydrology from Catchment to Coast series. The book focuses on the second largest river in Europe and the most transboundary river basin that encompasses 19 countries. Chapters focus on changes to the area in the past decade and a way forward. Made up of three parts, the book starts with an overview, covers The Danube River and its recipient, the Black Sea, including sediment balance, water quality, hydromorphology and aquatic biodiversity.Section two covers the key pressures and implementation of transboundary water management such as aquatic resources, invasive species, climate change, and stakeholder participation. Section three assess visions for a sustainable future in the Danube River Basin with a look to applicable sustainability, ecosystems, human interaction, and improving biodiversity through floodplains. The book concludes with a summary and outlook.

Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Analysis for Civil Engineering Applications helps civil engineers by outlining state-of-the-art tactics for quantitative decision-making to optimally select the appropriate approach when faced with operational issues, or to prioritize projects among multiple options. Authored by recognized experts in the field, the volume proves to be a balanced reference book that’s essential not just for civil engineers, but also for a wide variety of audiences in interconnected disciplines.Decision-making is a key factor to achieve success in any discipline, especially in a field which requires handling large amounts of information and is based on calculations as civil engineering. Most processes and procedures are a compendium of many different tasks and requirements of each project under development, also involving a great variety of specific factors and numerical values to be considered. Making decisions in such environments can often be an arduous endeavor, and that is why the need for analytical criteria capable of assisting with untangling complex scenarios has arisen preponderantly.

Assessment is a very important component of human activities because it helps in determining possible mistakes and in improving performance by preventing the repeat of such mistakes in future. Fuzzy Methods for Assessment and Decision Making presents the assessment of learning and problem-solving skills with qualitative grades. These methods are outcomes of the author’s research work on the subject for more than 20 years. In particular, a hybrid assessment model is developed using the Center of Gravity (COG) defuzzification technique, closed real intervals (grey numbers), neutrosophic sets and soft sets as tools. The book starts with the basic mathematical background which is needed for the understanding of its contents. The Rectangular Fuzzy Assessment Model (RFAM) of Subbotin and Voskoglou is presented next, the outcomes of which are compared to those of the GPA index. The necessary information follows regarding the learning and problem-solving processes, and the book then presents the hybrid assessment model. Dr. Voskoglou presents innovative fuzzy assessment methods, enabling the reader to assess the mean and quality performance of learning or problem-solving skills of a group of students when qualitative (linguistic) grades are used for this purpose. In the case of using linguistic grades for the assessment of a group’s skills, the classical method of calculating the mean value of the (numerical) grades cannot be applied. Also, no safe conclusions can be obtained on comparing the quality performance of two groups when the values of their GPA index are equal. The fuzzy assessment methods presented in this book solve these problems. Further, the use of neutrosophic sets enables readers to obtain safer results when there are doubts about the accuracy of the grades assigned to students, while the use of soft sets enables a parametric assessment of the group's overall performance. Furthermore, the book presents a variety of applications of Fuzzy assessment as well as the principles and application of fuzzy decision making, which is fundamental for a wide variety of AI, machine learning, computational intelligence, and knowledge engineering applications.

Recent advances in AI and Mechanism Design provide a vital tool for solving collective action problems, common in international relations. By using AI to optimize mechanisms for cooperation and coordination, we can better address issues such as climate change, trade, and security. Mechanism Design, Behavioral Science and Artificial Intelligence in International Relations shows readers how the intersection of Mechanism Design and Artificial Intelligence is revolutionizing the way we approach international relations. By using AI to optimize mechanisms, we can design better institutions, policies, and agreements that are more effective and efficient. Dr. Tshilidzi Marwala, United Nations University Rector and UN Under-Secretary General, presents the essential technologies used in Game Theory, Mechanism Design and AI and applies these to significant global issues such as interstate conflict, cybersecurity, and energy. International relations are a complex field, with many different actors and interests in play. By incorporating AI into our analysis and decision-making processes, we can better understand and predict the behavior of multiple actors and design mechanisms that take these behaviors into account, thereby producing more desirable and creative interdisciplinary approaches. The book presents real-world applications of these rapidly evolving technologies in crucial research fields such as Interstate Conflict, International Trade, Climate Change, Water management, Energy, cybersecurity, and global finance.
