Topic: Lessons Learned from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Accident and Recent Challenges in Japan

The University of Tokyo, Japan

Tsuyoshi Takada, a professor emeritus of the University of Tokyo, is currently a director of JAEA (Japan Atomic Energy Agency). He got the BS, MS, and Doctoral degrees from Nagoya University. In 1998, he joined the Graduate School of Engineering in the University of Tokyo. He is an expert on risk and reliability in structural engineering and is strongly promoting risk-informed applications in nuclear engineering. Particularly, he has been very actively working in the field of seismic safety of nuclear power plants, hazard assessment, fragility assessment, probabilistic seismic risk assessment, risk communication and so on.

He is currently involved in many international activities for safety of structures. He is the former president of IASMiRT (International Association of Structural Mechanics in Reactor Technology) and chaired the SMiRT27 in Yokohama 2024. He has served as a member of IASSAR (International Association of Structural Safety and Reliability), worked for activities on technical standard development of ISO (International Standard Organization).
