Dr. Andreas Thissen

Dr. Andreas Thissen is the CEO of SPECS Surface Nano Analysis GmbH, a leading supplier of surface analytical equipment.

He received his MSc degree (1994) and his PhD (2000) at the University of Duisburg in Germany on thin film growth of Iron and the adsorption of Alkali metals on Oxide surfaces studied by photoelectron spectroscopy and diffraction.

After this he concentrated his activities on surface analysis of energy conversion and storage materials. At the University of Darmstadt he applied XPS, UPS, PEEM, STM/AFM to thin film solar cell materials and combined with in-situ electrochemistry to Lithium ion battery materials.

In 2006 he joined SPECS and has been instrumental in providing in-situ and operando methods to the market, interfacing academic research with high‑tech industry.

Since 2009 he is member of ISO TC201 “Surface Chemical Analysis and Scanning Probe Microscopy” and since 2023 of the international advisory board of the Surface Analysis Society of Japan.
