Strengthen retention, academic performance and NCLEX® success — starting day one

Strong nursing student retention, academic performance, and NCLEX® pass rates begin with a solid foundation. The HESI Admission Assessment (A2) equips programs to make informed admissions decisions while setting students on the path to long-term success.

The A2 is a customizable admissions tool used in healthcare programs to ensure students admitted are prepared for the rigorous nursing curriculum. As a comprehensive solution, the A2 assesses prospective students’ proficiency in English Language, Math, and Science, offering preparation, evaluation, reporting, and remediation options. Research over the past decade has highlighted the A2’s predictive value in determining nursing student success and supporting program completion.

A new study from Miami Regional University demonstrates how integrating the HESI A2 early in its General Education led to significant gains in core subject areas—improving performance in Anatomy & Physiology and Math by up to 70% in just one semester. Further, the research reveals the A2’s effectiveness as an early intervention tool that supports student preparedness, academic progression, and overall program outcomes.

Key outcomes include:

  • Early identification of at-risk students through diagnostic assessment

  • Structured remediation leading to higher course completion rates

  • Improved course performance and program progression

  • Enhanced readiness for advanced nursing coursework

This research underscores how institutions can leverage the HESI Admission Assessment to enhance curriculum alignment, support diverse student populations, and improve licensure readiness.
