Elsevier expands Egyptian Knowledge Bank partnership with AI tools

2 de julio de 2025

EKB strengthens national research capabilities by offering access to Elsevier’s AI-powered tools – Scopus AI, ScienceDirect AI, and Reaxys Predictive Retrosynthesis

Elsevier, a global leader for advanced information and decision support in science and healthcare, has expanded its partnership with the Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB), Egypt’s national digital knowledge platform. Under the agreement, EKB will provide researchers, faculty, and students across Egypt with access to Elsevier’s AI-powered tools – Scopus AI, ScienceDirect AI, and Reaxys Predictive Retrosynthesis – beginning June 1, 2025.

Empowering Egypt’s research community

This expansion builds on Elsevier’s longstanding collaboration with EKB, further equipping Egypt’s research community with advanced AI tools for comprehensive discovery and actionable insights.

Since 2016, the partnership has enabled researchers, faculty, and students to access evidence-based content and analytics. It has also contributed to Egypt’s rising research output and global collaborations, with more than 6,000 Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)-related articles published by Egyptian researchers to date.

The integration of Elsevier’s AI-powered research tools will help accelerate scientific discovery and foster a transparent, future-ready research ecosystem, supporting the goals of Egypt’s Vision 2030 strategy.

New Elsevier AI tools available via EKB include:

  • Scopus AI:

Integrates generative AI with Scopus’ trusted content and data, enabling researchers and research institutions to get fast and accurate summaries and research insights that support collaboration and societal impact.

  • ScienceDirect AI:

Enables researchers to instantly extract, summarize and compare trusted insights from millions of full-text articles and book chapters on ScienceDirect, the world’s largest platform for trusted, peer-reviewed research.

  • Reaxys Predictive Retrosynthesis:

Combines high-quality reaction data with best-in-class AI to deliver scientifically robust predictions, enabling chemists to design efficient synthetic routes, optimize experimental planning, and accelerate the development of new compounds.

Advancing discovery and innovation

“This new addition is a leap forward for scientific advancement in Egypt,” said Prof. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education, Egypt. He added: “The integration of AI into our national research infrastructure will inspire innovation, nurture homegrown talent, and help Egyptian researchers take leading roles on the global stage.”

“We are proud to deepen our collaboration with the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, helping to drive national progress in research and innovation. By providing tailored access to our latest AI solutions, we are empowering Egyptian scholars at every level to break new ground and contribute to the advancement of science in Egypt and beyond,” said Ibrahim Mohamed, Regional Director – RI & Engineering Solutions Sales at Elsevier.

“We are delighted by the opportunity to further serve the Egyptian Knowledge Bank and Egyptian research,” said Maxim Khan, Senior Vice President A&G Solutions at Elsevier. “By introducing the latest AI-powered tools on top of Elsevier’s trusted data, we aim to support Egypt’s growing scientific ambitions and empower every researcher to make new discoveries faster and more efficiently.”

To support the effective use of these advanced tools, EKB and Elsevier will launch a series of webinars. These sessions will equip researchers with the knowledge to integrate responsible AI and analytics into their workflows and further enhance research outcomes.

About the Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB)

The Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB) is a national digital library initiative that provides free access to a wide range of educational, scientific, and cultural resources for all Egyptian citizens. Launched in 2014 under the patronage of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, the EKB supports Egypt’s Vision 2030 strategy to advance education and foster a knowledge-based society.

Developed by the Specialized Council for Education and Scientific Research, the EKB offers content across disciplines including science, technology, humanities, and management, available in both English and Arabic. The platform is accessible via computers, smartphones, and tablets, broadening its reach across the country.

Through agreements with international publishers, the EKB delivers resources such as Nature and Encyclopaedia Britannica to learners, educators, and researchers at no cost. It also supports translation services to increase access to content in multiple languages.
