Joseph Awange

Prof. Joseph Awange is a leading expert in environmental geoinformatics, specializing in remote sensing, geodesy, hydrology, and climate monitoring using satellite data and AI-driven analysis. He earned BSc and MSc degrees in Surveying from the University of Nairobi, Kenya, followed by a second MSc, PhD in Geodesy from Stuttgart University, Germany (DAAD scholarship), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Impact Assessment from Murdoch University, Australia. Currently a Professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University's Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics, he ranks among the world's top 2% most-cited scientists (Stanford, since 2020). His achievements include Alexander von Humboldt Fellowships (2008-2011, 2015, 2019), JSPS Fellowship (2015), and Brazil Frontier of Science award. Awange serves as Springer Nature's Acquisition Manager for Earth Sciences and Associate Editor for Remote Sensing of Environment. He has authored over 26 Springer books and 260+ peer-reviewed papers.
