Carmel O’Sullivan is University Librarian and Director (Library Services) at the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. Carmel has been Chair of the Council of Australian University Librarians, as well as Deputy Chair, and Chair of CAUL’s Finance Risk and Audit Committee. An experienced library leader and innovator, with an empathetic and human-centred approach, Carmel is adept at leading large-scale organisational transformations and building high-performing, collaborative teams, and well as strategic financial management and governance. Carmel has significant experience in the library and information sector. She has a law degree and worked for almost a decade at a national law firm. She managed a broad portfolio of cultural services for a local government, and has worked in several university libraries – first as a law librarian, and then in management and leadership roles. Carmel grew up on Giabal land south of Toowoomba in southeast Queensland. She has two children – one studying music in Sydney and one in her final year of high school.
