Benzhong Tang

Benzhong Tang

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), China

Prof. Tang received his BS and PhD degrees from South China University of Technology and Kyoto University in 1982 and 1988, respectively. He joined the HKUST in 1994 and was promoted to Chair Professor in 2008. He was elected a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2009) and The World Academy of Sciences (2020). In 2021, he joined CUHK-Shenzhen.

He coined the concept of aggregation-induced emission (AIE), with >250,000 citations, an h‑index of 218. His awards include Honorary Citizen of Guangzhou City (2015), National Natural Science Award (1st Class) (2017), Nano Today Award(2021), and the Guangdong Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution Award (2025).
