Leonides Fernández is an Associate Professor, qualified as Full Professor, at the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). She holds a PhD in Biological Sciences from the Autonomous University of Madrid and completed research stages at the Food Research Center (Canada), the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA), and the NIZO (The Netherlands. She co-directs the UCM Probilac group, which pioneered studies on the human milk microbiota. Her research focuses on maternal-infant microbiota acquisition and evolution, probiotic applications, biofilm formation in enteral feeding devices and food contact surfaces, and the use of LAB as preventive alternatives.
