Eric Hoek

Dr. Eric Hoek is a professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and a faculty scientist in the Energy Storage & Distributed Resources Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Prof. Hoek’s research explores the union of membrane technologies, nanomaterials and electrochemistry for water, energy and environmental applications. Since beginning his career in academia, he has advised (or co-advised) 31 postdoctoral researchers and 35 Ph.D. students. Prof. Hoek, his advisees and collaborators have published over 170 ISI peer-reviewed journal articles, 20 U.S. patents, and two books on Sustainable Desalination and Water Reuse and Oil & Gas Produced Water Management. He is also co-Editor-in-Chief of the John Wiley & Sons Encyclopedia of Membrane Science & Technology, former Associate Editor of the Elsevier journal Desalination, and founding and former Editor-in-Chief of the Nature journal npj Clean Water. Dr Hoek has also co-founded a number of successful technology companies and serves as an adviser to several other technology companies, investment funds and non-profits.
