Navigating a world of rapid technological change, shifting funding priorities and evolving public expectations

As science becomes ever more central to advancing human progress, from climate change to public health, and from technological innovation to social equity, the demands on researchers and research leaders have never been greater.

Learn more about our role in supporting and communicating confidence in research.

Researchers today are working in a rapidly changing environment. Technology is transforming how science is done, funding priorities are shifting, and public expectations are evolving faster than ever. As science becomes more central to solving global challenges, from climate and health to equity and innovation, the demands on researchers and research leaders continue to grow.

Our global survey, capturing the views of over 3,200 researchers across 113 countries, shows a community defined by resilience and adaptability. AI is now woven into daily research practice for many, yet training and institutional guidance still lag behind. At the same time, funding uncertainty and the pressure to publish weigh heavily, even as collaboration and interdisciplinary work open new paths to impact.

Confidence in Research is Elsevier’s commitment to helping the research community navigate this changing landscape. The initiative brings together insights, tools, and expertise to strengthen integrity, transparency, and trust—core values that remain constant even as the system evolves. Guided by researchers’ experiences, we work with partners around the world to support responsible innovation, enhance research integrity, and improve how science is shared and understood.

Science has always been a collective effort. By supporting the people who drive discovery, we can help ensure that research continues to be a force for progress—advancing knowledge, building trust, and improving lives everywhere.
