Materials Today Rising Star Awards

The Materials Today Rising Star Awards recognize early career researchers in the fields of materials science and engineering. Launched by the Materials Today family of journals in 2018, the Awards are presented to those who have demonstrated exceptional potential to make a real impact and become future leaders in the materials science and engineering fields.

The 2026 Awards are sponsored by 6 of the Materials Today journals: Materials Today, Materials Today Bio, Materials Today Catalysis, Materials Today Energy, Materials Today Nano, and Materials Today Quantum.

There are 10 Awards available across 5 categories:

  • Biomaterials: 3 Awards Sponsored by Materials Today, Materials Today Bio, and Materials Today Nano

  • Energy Conversion & Storage: 3 Awards Sponsored by Materials Today, Materials Today Catalysis, and Materials Today Energy

  • Materials Data Science & AI: 1 Award Sponsored by Materials Today

  • Sustainability: 1 Award Sponsored by Materials Today

  • Quantum Materials & Electronics: 2 Awards Sponsored by Materials Today and Materials Today Quantum

Nomination guidelines

Nominations for the 2026 Materials Today Rising Star Awards are open now. The deadline to submit all nominations is July 31st, 2026.

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must have completed their PhD within the past 10 years.

Information collected through the nomination form will only be used for the administration of the Awards. Judging and prizes

The judging panels for the 2026 Awards consist of editors from the sponsoring journals. These editors will evaluate all eligible candidates based on the impact of their research and their contributions to the materials community.

Each winner will receive an honorarium of $1,000 USD.
