Since 1983 Micron Semiconductor Ltd have become a leading manufacturer of silicon and diamond detectors for the High Energy Physics, Space, Nuclear and Medical Research, and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) markets. We specialise in producing custom AC and DC single and double sided silicon along with polycrystalline and single-crystal diamond detectors.

Silicon Particle Detectors and Photodiodes are individually designed for each customer requirement and are characterised for their specific application. Strict internal quality controls are followed to ensure high quality standards are maintained at all times. Wafers and detectors are fully processed in house for maximum control. Micron Semiconductor Ltd is registered against the provisions of BS EN ISO 9001:2008. The Assembly and Testing of all products are documented in the form of Company Drawings, Procedures, and Work Instructions with full traceability at all stages.

Our core departments are Nuclear, Space, Diamond, and OEM. In the Nuclear industry, we have contributed to a wide range of projects including R3B, ISOLDE, MINOS, HIRA, BELLE2, GASPARD, CLIC, LHCb, and ATLAS. In the Space industry, we have worked with NASA, ESA, and JAXA on projects such as RBSP, NOAA, providing devices for use on the Solar Probe Plus, the Solar Orbiter, and Juice.

Our Diamond Detector product range is as modular as our Silicon Detector range. As a material, diamond detectors offer many desired features: very short response time, high temperature operation, and extreme radiation hardness. These qualities allow to create fast detectors that do not require cooling due to their negligible thermal noise. These custom-designed detectors have numerous applications: x-ray beam positioning in synchrotron research, nuclear analysis, UV detection, space spectroscopy, neutron monitoring, and detection in underground exploration.
