Higher Education Forum - The 8th Higher education forum earlier known as the University Forum - an annual event jointly organized by UGC INFLIBNET & Elsevier, is a platform for key stakeholders from the higher education community to gather and discuss all important aspects of higher education & research in India.

The agenda of this year’s Higher education forum was built around the objective of “Research Leading the way in Economic Development.” All the session for the forum were woven around this purpose. The discussion was aimed to help higher education institutions in India to foster research and innovation and boost industrial collaboration. Many speakers and panelist highlighted that access to right tools provides for better analysis and visualization of the research leading to higher quality and quantity of the research output, improved collaborations, ultimately leading to higher economic rewards.
This year forum commenced with the guest address from Dr. Jagdish Arora, Director INFLIBNET.
Dr. Arora emphasized on role of ESS consortium as a collaborative platform and developing it as a sustainable model. Later, Mr. Vinod Kaw, Regional Sales Manager highlighted the need for maximum outreach of information and how science needs to be used as tool to shape the society. Dr. Youngsuk “YS” Chi, Chairman Elsevier shared an exciting view of how strategic research planning can lead to economic development through the inspiring example of Mr. Sumant Sharma of Renew Energy. He highlighted the need to foster collaboration between academia, industry and policymakers to maximize the economic effect of research. Dr. Chi mentioned, a roadmap should be created through focused research into high impact areas employing evidence-based assessment to advent into the 4th industrial revolution. Prof. Euiho Suh, Associate Vice President, DGIST, Professor & Chair Emeritus, POSTECH presented the concept of VSS to improve university rankings. In short, influential research is the need of the day and the time is now or never. Dr. Aloknath De, Corp VP and CTO, Samsung R&D India shared with us a thought-provoking presentation on “Learnings in 21st-century institute". He accentuated the need for continuous learning to increase the half-life period of knowledge. The higher education centres need to change along with the developing technologies for example, digital learning platforms need to be adapted. Dr Charon Duermeijer, Senior Director Academic Customer Engagement, Elsevier showcased ‘How Tech Transfer contributes to the economic growth of a country’. Mr. Nitin Rawat, Senior Account Manager, Elsevier showcased the growing research landscape of India and the need of resources to boost that growth. India can become a leader in knowledge and innovation if all universities are able to function at their best with the optimum use of e-resources.
